Tyler Henry is currently making rounds with his new show on Netflix titled ‘Live from the Other Side with Tyler Henry,’ much to the excitement of his fans. With successful past shows like ‘Hollywood’s Medium’ and ‘Life After Death with Tyler Henry,’ the 28-year-old is unquestionably one of the most renowned psychic mediums in the world. To be where he is today would require immense support from his family, and Tyler appears to have that in abundance, thanks to his loving parents.
So, how well do you know Henry’s father and/or mother? The latter is certainly a more public persona with a crazy family history, so most people who follow Tyler are quite familiar with his mom. However, the same can’t be said for his low-key dad. Here’s everything we know about Tyler’s old man.
Tyler Henry Reflects on Close Relationship With His Father David Koelewyn
Tyler Henry’s father David Koeleywn was born and raised in California to his parents, Barbara Anne and Henry Koelewyn, a Netherlands immigrant. David married Theresa Koelewyn, Tyler’s mom, as a teenager in 1986, and the two have maintained a strong bond for several decades. The couple welcomed Tyler Henry Koelewyn, their only child, on January 13, 1996. Despite online queries, their family members are just the three of them, and Tyler does not have a sister or siblings.
Unlike his wife, Theresa, who often makes TV appearances and is publicly supportive of Tyler, David prefers to stay out of the spotlight. He rarely appears in the media or public events related to Tyler’s famed career. But that does not mean he is not supportive of his son. David is, in fact, one of Tyler’s biggest cheerleaders behind the scenes.
Tyler Henry has openly expressed gratitude for his father, who has been a significant influence in his life. The Netflix alum says his dad David has been an incredible source of encouragement, and his acceptance and support are among the major reasons he has been able to embrace his mediumship skills without any sort of fear.
On Father’s Day in 2017, Tyler took to Instagram to write:
Spending a quality weekend with my dad. Though you guys haven’t seen him on the show as of yet, he’s an incredible source of support and his encouragement gave me the strength to share my ability. Happy Father’s Day! 💙
A year later in 2018, he took to Facebook on Father’s Day and wrote:
My dad has been one of the most instrumental parts of my life. Though he hasn’t appeared on #HollywoodMedium yet, his support and love has made all of this possible and I hope you’ll meet him next season! Happy Father’s Day.
Tyler Henry makes no shortage of effort to praise his dad every chance he gets. The following year in 2019, he once again took to IG to write:
Today I’m reminded of not only how lucky I am to have a loving father, but to be able to know him in adulthood. It’s a privilege to have a dad that is someone I’d want to be friends with. His love for his child was stronger than any of the “coming outs” he was met with as a parent. In knowing that love was foremostly important, he allowed me to shine. Happy Father’s Day.
It’s quite evident that Tyler feels genuinely lucky to know his dad as an adult and thinks of him more as a friend. David’s love has been a huge support for Tyler, helping him through tough times, especially when it comes to figuring out who he is and what he wants to do with his career.
David Koelewyn, Tyler Henry’s father, lives in Hanford, California, where he keeps a pretty low profile. He is someone who values effort and grind, working as a tile contractor in Hanford and surrounding areas.
Theresa Koelewyn: Tyler Henry’s Mother’s Emotional Journey From Adoption to Reunion With Biological Family
Theresa Koelewyn grew up in a chaotic household and believed almost all her life that the woman who raised her was her biological mother. However, Tyler’s grandmother Stella Guidry Nestle, turned out to be a criminal and a con artist. In 2019, a shocking DNA test revealed that Stella wasn’t her real mother—Theresa was actually taken from her real family in Louisiana as a baby. As you’d expect, this discovery almost broke her, because the people she considered her family were not related to her at all.
After the DNA results, Theresa, along with her son Tyler, embarked on a journey to discover her roots. When she eventually stumbled across her true family history, she learned that her real mother, Mary, and grandmother had given her up because of their dire financial situation. Mary was already raising two kids as a single mom and Theresa’s father, Joe Cowart, was not around. They thought she’d have a better life elsewhere but Theresa was never actually unwanted by her biological family. She went on to connect with her blood-related siblings and cousins, who welcomed her with open arms.
Theresa Koelewyn is grateful to no longer be associated with Stella, who shockingly tortured and murdered two people in the ’70s, and subsequently served 30 years in prison. However, Tyler’s mom has found it difficult to process the whole revelation emotionally. Learning such a major part of her life so late means she can’t help but wonder how different her life could have been. To her credit, she is slowly but surely embracing her newfound family and not attaching herself to the past pain.
Theresa continues to live in California, close to both her blood relatives and the siblings she grew up with. Despite her emotional journey, she’s found stability and happiness in her long-term relationship with David Koelewyn.
As for the relationship with her son, Theresa has been Tyler’s rock from the very beginning, fully believing in his clairvoyant abilities and supporting him through everything. Tyler has expressed that Theresa is more than just his mom—she’s his best friend, someone who truly gets him on a deeper level.
