Sunny Hostin, co-host of ‘The View,’ and her husband, Manny Hostin, have had a relationship full of love, ups and downs, and inevitable challenges. Lately, they’ve been in the spotlight because of Manny’s involvement in a federal insurance fraud lawsuit.
It’s just the latest twist in their story, which started almost 30 years ago with a chance meeting and has included plenty of sweet milestones along with some tough times.
From Bagels to “I Do”: The Love Story of Sunny Hostin, Her Husband Manny, and Their Kids
‘The View’ co-host Sunny Hostin has been married to orthopedic surgeon Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin since August 1998. They share two children: their 22-year-old son Gabriel and 18-year-old daughter Paloma. Recently, Manny was named in a major federal insurance fraud lawsuit, accused of billing American Transit Insurance for unnecessary surgeries and accepting kickbacks, although he vehemently denies the allegations.
Sunny and Manny’s story started back in 1996 at a church in Maryland. Sunny couldn’t help but notice Manny—his sharp suit and confident persona had her hooked. After the service, she casually followed him to a bagel shop, hoping to strike up a chat. This little “meet-cute” turned into one of their favorite stories, though they remember it differently. Manny likes to joke they met at the bagel shop, while Sunny insists it all began at church—even if he didn’t notice her right away. Fast forward two years to August 1998, and they were saying “I do,” kicking off a life together packed with love, adventures, and major milestones.
Manny and Sunny Hostin’s family got bigger when their son Gabriel was born in 2002, followed by their daughter Paloma in 2006. But their path to parenthood wasn’t easy. In her memoir, I Am These Truths, and in interviews, Sunny opened up about her struggles with infertility. She went through five heartbreaking miscarriages and battled a tough, isolating depression. Her pregnancy with Gabriel was especially difficult—she spent seven months on bed rest to make sure he’d be okay. By sharing her story, Sunny wanted to break the silence around infertility and depression and let others know they’re not alone.
While raising their kids, Sunny and Manny juggled the challenges of their careers—hers in law and media, his as an orthopedic surgeon. Sunny joined ‘The View’ as a co-host in 2016 and often shared stories about her family life on the show. Manny, who’s known to be super private, occasionally came up in her anecdotes. One memorable moment was when hip-hop artist Doug E. Fresh danced a little too close to Sunny during her 50th birthday celebration on ‘The View,’ which clearly didn’t sit well with Manny. Sunny later laughed about it, admitting that both she and Manny can be a bit possessive in their relationship.
Their life together hasn’t been without its share of heartache. In January 2021, Sunny Hostin shared on ‘The View’ that Manny’s parents, both doctors, had passed away from COVID-19 during the holiday season, even though they’d taken every precaution. It was a deeply personal loss that highlighted just how devastating the pandemic was. While Manny tends to stay out of the spotlight, he supported Sunny’s decision to talk about their tragedy to raise awareness about public health.
More recently, Sunny has been open about her marriage and personal choices. In 2023, she decided to get plastic surgery—a choice she made on her own, even though Manny was hesitant at first. For her, it was about owning her decisions and asserting her independence. Her honesty about these moments shows her commitment to living life openly, unapologetically, and on her own terms.

Things took a pretty nasty turn for Sunny Hostin and her husband, Manny, in December 2024 when he got named as one of nearly 200 defendants in a massive federal RICO lawsuit—the biggest of its kind in New York. The insurance company, American Transit, is accusing him of being part of a scheme involving fake medical practices.
They claim he performed unnecessary arthroscopic surgeries and billed the insurance company for them, allegedly pocketing kickbacks disguised as dividends or cash payouts. The lawsuit says these shady practices targeted a company that insures taxi drivers and rideshare workers like Uber and Lyft drivers. American Transit is going after at least $450 million in damages.
Manny, through his lawyer Daniel Thwaites, has strongly denied all the allegations, calling the lawsuit baseless and a desperate move by the insurer to dodge its responsibilities. Thwaites said American Transit’s actions are more about scaring healthcare providers and blocking valid claims than dealing with real issues. He also highlighted Manny’s spotless professional record and noted that the company never investigated or brought up any concerns with Manny or his legal team before filing the lawsuit.
The lawsuit has thrown some unwanted spotlight on Sunny Hostin and her partner Manny’s personal lives. Sunny hasn’t said anything publicly yet, but given her track record of being open about family stuff, she might speak up at some point. For now, the accusations against Manny are a big test for the couple, challenging their resilience and their relationship.
