Standing at 6′ 1″, this talented star has been making waves with his latest foray into Netflix’s ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story’ and FX’s ‘Grotesquerie,’ both of which happen to be famed television filmmaker Ryan Murphy’s projects.

With his growing stardom, fans are increasingly curious about Nicholas Chavez’s personal life. Many fans wonder about his parents, ethnicity, and whether or not he’s Mexican. So, without further ado, let’s dive right into them.

Nicholas Alexander Chavez was born to Hispanic parents on September 6, 1999, in Houston, Texas, before moving with his family to Sugar Land. Belonging to the Hispanic/Latino ethnicity, he has family roots in Latin America.

Unfortunately, his parents divorced when he was just five, so he had to spend time between his mother’s home in Denver and his father’s residence in Arvada, Colorado.

Chavez leaves no shortage of effort to acknowledge the backing he has received from his father, who has a strong athletic background.  He remembers one particularly touching moment when his dad cried after seeing one of his performances. He has consistently received love, support, and encouragement from both his parents despite their separation.

One of the reasons Nicholas has been able to achieve so much at such a young age is down to his entire family, including the influence of his grandparents from Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Nick and Betty Chavez, his paternal grandparents, were crucial in helping him nurture his talent. Betty noticed early on that he was a natural performer and always praised his dedication to acting. As part of the family legacy, Chavez’s grandparents have been in local commercials themselves, showcasing their own ties to the entertainment world.

A brother to three younger half-siblings, Chavez was an avid outdoorsman in his childhood, describing himself as a “precocious kid” who enjoyed outdoor activities like snowboarding, hiking, and mountain biking. Clearly, his love for performance was evident ever since he was a child, leading him to join the Colorado Children’s Chorale and perform at notable venues such as the Ellie Caulkins Opera House and the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.

At East High School in Denver, he juggled schoolwork with sports, playing football, and being part of the speech and debate team, mentored by Matt Murphy. When Murphy took charge of the drama department, he cast Chavez as Atticus Finch in the school’s version of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird,’ which made Chavez choose theater over football.

In his senior year, Nicholas took classes at Visionbox Studio Theater with Jennifer McCray Rincón. He went on to study at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Jersey for two years but then decided to take a break to chase his acting dreams in Los Angeles. But when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, he ended up back in Vero Beach, Florida, where he took on different jobs, like working at a car dealership, all while sending in self-tape auditions to keep going with his acting goals.

Nicholas Alexander Chavez experienced a professional breakthrough in 2021 when he made his television debut as Spencer Cassadine in ‘General Hospital.’ He went on to win an Emmy in June 2022, changing the trajectory of his whole career. After taking a leave of absence, he made his last appearance on the show in January 2024. Besides ‘General Hospital,’ he had a starring role as Jason in the Tubi original film ‘Crushed’ (2022). He kept the momentum going, scoring a nomination for another Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2023.

In 2024, Nicholas Chavez’s fame reached a whole new level after he starred as Lyle Menendez in Ryan Murphy’s hit true-crime anthology series, ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.’ Currently, he’s earning plaudits for his portrayal of Father Charlie in Murphy’s new horror drama project, ‘Grotesquerie.’

On a relationship front, the 25-year-old is in a relationship with actress Victoria Abbott, who is starting alongside him in ‘Grotesquerie.’

Is Nicholas Alexander Chavez Mexican? What’s His Ethnicity?

Nicholas Alexander Chavez is an American actor with Hispanic/Latino roots, but he doesn’t really label himself as Mexican. Born in Houston, Texas, on September 6, 1999, he’s got a mix of influences from Latin America. He hasn’t gone into specifics about his ancestry, but with a last name like “Chavez,” you can guess there might be some Mexican connection in there.
