Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s six children have grown up in the spotlight, but their family story is far from a Hollywood fairytale. Once dubbed “Brangelina,” the couple’s high-profile relationship ended in a messy divorce, leaving their kids—Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne—caught in the middle. Over the years, the young ones have made headlines for everything from name changes to strained relationships with their famous father. As of August 2025, the family dynamics remain complicated, with some distancing themselves from Pitt while others maintain occasional contact.

The Jolie-Pitt Kids: Names, Ages, and Backgrounds

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s six children are a mix of adopted and biological kids, each with their own unique stories. The eldest, Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt, 23, was adopted by Jolie from Cambodia in 2002, before she and Pitt were even a couple. Maddox, who studied biochemistry in South Korea, has been largely estranged from Pitt since the 2016 plane incident that allegedly involved a physical altercation between Pitt and Jolie.

Next is Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt, 21, adopted from Vietnam in 2007. Pax has been openly critical of Pitt, once calling him a “world-class a**hole” in a since-deleted Instagram post. Reports suggest their relationship is beyond repair, with Pitt allegedly “washing his hands” of Pax’s troubles, including a recent bike accident and late-night outings in Los Angeles.

Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt, 20, adopted from Ethiopia in 2005, has also distanced herself from Pitt. In 2023, she introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie” at her Spelman College sorority induction, dropping “Pitt” from her name. Like her siblings, Zahara has had little contact with her father in recent years.

The first biological child, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie, 19, made waves in 2024 by legally removing “Pitt” from her name. She now goes by “Shi Jolie” professionally, as seen in her recent choreography credits. Pitt was reportedly “heartbroken” by the move, as Shiloh was once his closest child.

Finally, the twins, Knox Léon Jolie-Pitt and Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt, turned 17 in July 2025. While Vivienne has also dropped “Pitt” from her name (credited as “Vivienne Jolie” in a Broadway playbill), Knox has retained the full surname, giving Pitt a “glimmer of hope” for reconciliation. Pitt has reportedly made efforts to reconnect with the twins, though their relationship remains sporadic.

The Estrangement and Efforts to Reconnect

The rift between Brad Pitt and his children stems largely from the 2016 plane incident, where Jolie accused Pitt of physical and verbal abuse toward her and the kids. Though no charges were filed, the fallout was irreversible. Since then, Pitt has faced public rejections, like Pax’s scathing social media posts and Shiloh’s name change, while privately trying to mend ties.

As of mid-2025, Pitt reportedly sees only Knox and Vivienne “periodically,” while the older four remain distant. A source close to Pitt claims he’s “devastated” but respects their boundaries, hoping they’ll reach out when ready. Meanwhile, Jolie has focused on supporting her kids’ independence, whether it’s Zahara’s college journey or Shiloh’s dance career.

The family’s story is still unfolding, but one thing is clear: these children are carving their own paths, with or without their father Brad Pitt’s last name.
