When you think of the ultimate sports couple, Ben Casparius and Erin Matson might not be the first names that pop up in your minds, but they certainly deserve to be in the conversation, or at least they’ll get there soon enough in the near future. Ben’s been climbing the ranks with the Dodgers in the MLB, making his presence felt in the world of baseball, while Erin’s breaking records as UNC’s star field hockey coach, with an incredible number of national titles to her name.
Even with the distance and packed schedules in their respective careers, this talented boyfriend-girlfriend duo leaves no shortage of effort to support each other. Ben has turned into a genuine field hockey fan while Erin keeps cheering her man from the stands whenever she can. Clearly, they’re all about big dreams, celebrating each other’s wins, and keeping things real, no matter how hectic life gets.
Ben Casparius and Erin Matson Celebrate Love Amid MLB Dreams and NCAA Glory
Dodgers’ rookie Ben Casparius, 25, who recently made his MLB debut in 2024, is in a relationship with his girlfriend, Erin Matson, 24. The couple met as students at the University of North Carolina, but they only started dating around 2019, at least that’s what their respective Instagram suggests.
Ben first posted Erin in August 2019, writing, “Me and America miss you cutie.” Over on Erin’s page, you can find her posting about her boyfriend in July 2019, with the caption: “missing nights like these with u❤️❤️”
In November 2019, Ben took to Instagram to praise his partner for winning back-to-back NCAA Division I national championships, writing: “Not sure you’re ever gonna lose again…cheers to 2 more nattys!! #46-0 🏆” Needless to say, this aged like fine wine, because she has literally never lost since, winning five on the bounce! She achieved four of these titles as a player (2018–2021) and then, in her first season as head coach, she led the team to another national championship in 2023.
The couple often shares their beautiful moments on Instagram, including their romantic travels, like when they went on a vacation to Hyatt Ziva Cancun resort in Mexico or the time “the nachos slapped” at Cape May, New Jersey. They also wish each other with proper IG posts and not just Stories on their respective birthdays, with Ben labeling his girlfriend “the best girl in the world” and Erin calling her boyfriend a “truly amazing and inspiring boy.”
When Casparius was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fifth round of the 2021 Major League Baseball draft, his girlfriend, Erin, took to Instagram to congratulate him, writing: “The City of Angels is so lucky to have you – time to add another shade of blue to the wardrobe 💙💙”
Ben and Erin don’t post each other on their respective IG as much as they used to a few years ago, but when they do on rare occasions these days, their love and affection for one another couldn’t be more evident. The lovebirds haven’t exchanged vows, yet, but their commitment over the course of the last five years already makes them look like a married couple, and that’s the best compliment you could offer for the truly wonderful bond they share.
Meanwhile, some fans wonder if Ben is going to pop the question and whether a wedding might be on the cards soon. For now, all we can say is they definitely look like two people made for each other and it feels like a matter of time before they officially tie the knot.
Erin Matson and Ben Casparius Show How True Love Survives Distance and Busy Sports Schedules
This adorable couple was already in an official relationship by the time Ben had transferred to the University of Connecticut in 2020. Their connection has managed to endure, leading to the foundation of a long-distance relationship that is still going strong today.
Casparius’s baseball journey in the minor leagues at Arizona Complex League Dodgers, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, Great Lakes Loons, Tulsa Drillers, and Oklahoma City Dodgers—all affiliates of the Los Angeles Dodgers—has seen him travel across several states, from California to Michigan to Oklahoma.
Meanwhile, his girlfriend Erin Matson, has stayed put in North Carolina, seamlessly transitioning from a star field hockey player to the head coach of the Tar Heels. Despite the miles, the couple has stayed committed, and their fans love that for them.
One of the best aspects of their respective sports is that their seasons generally don’t overlap, which works quite well in their favor. Ben heads to Chapel Hill in the fall, supporting his girlfriend and the UNC field hockey team while he gets some off-season training in North Carolina.
Erin Matson, an accomplished coach and former player with five national titles to her name, has not only introduced Ben Casparius to the world of field hockey but also made him a genuine fan of the sport. Incidentally, Ben’s commitment to baseball and his growing reputation through the Dodgers’ ranks perfectly mirror Erin’s impressive coaching journey. They’re both chasing their dreams, and it’s truly inspiring to see.
Erin, currently just 24 years old, is the youngest Division I coach and has already earned national acclaim, while Ben has continued to excel in Triple-A baseball. His recent jump to the major leagues means he’s officially on the Dodgers’ roster, which is pretty awesome and totally in line with Erin’s impressive coaching accomplishments. With both of them hitting new highs in their sports, it’s an exciting time for their careers.
