Ashley Park has recently made a striking return to the spotlight, making many fans wonder about her health and recovery. With the release of ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 4 on Netflix, it’s only natural for viewers to want to learn about the serious health issue the actress faced during a dream vacation that quickly spiraled into a battle with an awful illness.
The Mindy Chen star has made some significant lifestyle changes in recent years, some of which preceded her critical health crisis. Given the recent unfortunate developments this year, Ashley Park claims she is only going to get more mindful about her well-being.
Ashley Park Opens Up About Her Health Crisis and Newfound Love for Gardening
On August 14, 2024, Ashley Park showed up at the premiere of ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 4 at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles. The actress, who is recovering from septic shock (likely the reason for her latest weight loss), shared her progress at the event.
Back in January, Park had a severe medical emergency after getting extremely sick from tonsillitis, and she’s been dealing with septic shock ever since. The Californian was on vacation in the Maldives with her boyfriend, Paul Forman, when her health started to worsen. Thankfully, Paul was there for her through the whole hospital stay and recovery. She also had great doctors in both the Maldives and London.
Now, Ashley is turning to gardening as her new favorite hobby to look after herself and her health. She says she is taking to TikTok to learn about gardening and growing vegetables. The ‘Emily in Paris’ star mentioned that she had not been able to rest properly for a while and is enjoying spending time with her family.
Speaking to Cosmopolitan, Park opened up about how seriously ill with tonsillitis she really was and how she needed several air ambulance trips, eventually heading to Paris to recover with her ‘Emily in Paris’ castmates. Reflecting on her illness, Park acknowledged that she had pushed herself too hard. But that’s in the past and she’s all about prioritizing her health now.
Ashley Park’s Shift from Weight Loss to Strength Building and Self-Care
Speaking to Women’s Health in June 2023, Ashley Park said she had switched up her fitness game from focusing on weight loss to building strength and self-care. The actress was working with Pilates instructors Brandon Perry in LA and Sarah Brooks in NYC for that extra accountability. She claimed she was going for three Pilates sessions per week, prioritizing muscle strength over calorie burning. The pandemic was a significant turning point for Park as it served as an inspiration for her to look after her overall wellness and mental health through her fitness routine. Her Pilates workouts are full of challenging moves like toe taps, single-leg oblique crunches, and rolling reverse planks.
The ‘Emily in Paris’ star sprained her ankle at a Beyonce concert, and she subsequently had to take a break from some of her favorite workouts, such as running, but she’s taking care of herself in other ways. Her wellness plan now includes relaxing vacations, FaceGym sessions, acupuncture, massage therapy, and healthy meals. The 33-year-old has learned how crucial it is to balance both physical and mental health, so she’s all about self-care these days.
