Jaxson Dart Hurt: What Happened to Him Today | Injury Update

In a tough turn of events for the New York Giants, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart‘s standout performance against the Chicago Bears was cut short on Sunday. The promising rookie, who had been dazzling with his arm and legs, left the game in the third quarter after a hard hit and was later officially ruled out with a concussion. His exit shifted the momentum, with the Giants ultimately falling to the Bears 24-20 after leading by 10 points in the fourth quarter.

The injury marks the fourth time Dart has been evaluated for a concussion this year, including the preseason, raising immediate concerns about his availability for next week’s game. Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson stepped in to finish the game, but the offense couldn’t maintain its earlier momentum, underscoring Dart’s growing importance to the team.

What Happened During the Game?

The injury occurred late in the third quarter with the Giants holding a 17-10 lead. On a designed run, Jaxson Dart scrambled off the left side and was sandwiched by a trio of Bears defenders, including a hit from Bears defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson. The collision was significant, resulting in a fumble, and Dart’s head appeared to slam hard against the turf.

Dart was slow to get up and was attended to on the sideline before heading to the blue medical tent to be evaluated for a head injury between quarters. After his assessment in the tent, he walked slowly to the locker room with team medical personnel, a sign that he had not passed the initial concussion check on the sideline. The Giants announced shortly afterward that the rookie had been ruled out for the remainder of the game with a concussion.

Before his exit, Dart was in the midst of a historic performance, having completed 19 of 29 passes for 242 yards and adding 66 rushing yards with two touchdowns on the ground. This made him the first quarterback in NFL history to record at least one rushing touchdown in five consecutive games.

What’s Next for Jaxson Dart?

With the concussion confirmed, Dart will now enter the NFL’s mandatory concussion protocol. This is a five-step process that players must complete before being cleared to return to full practice or game action. The protocol has no set timeline for a player’s return; recovery depends on the individual and the specific symptoms they experience. Team medical staff will carefully manage his progress, considering his current injury and his history, as this was his fourth concussion evaluation of the year.

This history makes his immediate status a point of significant attention. The Giants play again next Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, and given the nature of concussion recovery, his availability for that game is very much in doubt. If Jaxson Dart is unable to clear the protocol in time, veteran Russell Wilson, who began the season as the starter, will retake the reins as the Giants’ quarterback. For the Giants and their fans, the hope is that their exciting rookie recovers quickly and fully, but the priority will undoubtedly be his long-term health and safety.
