Euphoria Star Eric Dane Net Worth 2025: Inside His $7 Million Fortune

Eric Dane, the charismatic actor best known for stealing scenes as Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy and the morally complex Cal Jacobs on HBO’s Euphoria, has built a career that spans over three decades, amassing an estimated net worth of $7 million as of 2025.

Born on November 9, 1972, in San Francisco, California, Dane’s journey to Hollywood fame wasn’t without its struggles. His father passed away when he was just seven years old, leaving his mother to raise him and his younger brother in the Jewish faith. Dane’s early life was marked by athleticism; he played varsity water polo in high school, but a school production of All My Sons ignited his passion for acting, setting him on a path that would eventually lead to iconic roles and financial success.

Dane’s career began with small guest spots in the ’90s, including appearances on Saved by the Bell, The Wonder Years, and Roseanne. His first significant break came in 2000 with a recurring role as Dr. Wyatt Cooper on Gideon’s Crossing, followed by a two-season arc as Jason Dean, a love interest for Phoebe Halliwell (Alyssa Milano) on Charmed. These roles laid the groundwork for his eventual rise to stardom.

But it was in 2005 that Dane’s career skyrocketed. After a guest appearance as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy, fan demand was so overwhelming that he was promoted to a series regular in Season 3. His character, nicknamed “McSteamy” for his undeniable charm and looks, became a fan favorite, and Dane stayed with the show until Season 9, when his character was tragically killed off. He later returned for a brief cameo in Season 17 in 2021, much to the delight of longtime fans.

While Grey’s Anatomy was his breakout role, Dane didn’t stop there. From 2014 to 2018, he starred as Captain Tom Chandler in TNT’s The Last Ship, a post-apocalyptic drama that further solidified his leading-man status. The show, which ran for five seasons, was a steady source of income and exposure, contributing significantly to his fortune.

But it was his role as Cal Jacobs in Euphoria, HBO’s gritty teen drama, that reintroduced him to a new generation of viewers. Cal, the closeted bisexual father of Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi), became one of the show’s most talked-about characters, thanks to Dane’s layered performance. Despite the challenges of filming intimate scenes, including the use of a prosthetic p*nis, which he described as “pretty intense,” Dane embraced the role, earning critical acclaim and a fresh wave of popularity.

Beyond television, Dane’s film career has been a mixed bag of blockbusters and indie projects. He appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) as Multiple Man, shared the screen with Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson in Marley & Me (2008), and starred in ensemble rom-coms like Valentine’s Day (2010) and Burlesque (2010). While these films didn’t always dominate the box office, they added to his credibility and paycheck. More recently, he’s taken on roles in smaller films like The Ravine (2021) and American Carnage (2022), proving his versatility as an actor.

Dane’s personal life has been just as eventful as his career. He married actress Rebecca Gayheart in 2004, and the couple shares two daughters, Billie (15) and Georgia (13). Their relationship has seen its ups and downs, including a highly publicized s*x tape scandal in 2009 involving former beauty queen Kari Ann Peniche. In 2018, Gayheart filed for divorce, but by March 2025, she withdrew the petition, revealing that they had remained close friends and dedicated co-parents despite their separation.

Dane has also been open about his struggles with mental health and addiction, checking into rehab in 2011 for prescription drug dependency and taking a hiatus from The Last Ship in 2017 to focus on his battle with depression.

In April 2025, Eric Dane made headlines for a deeply personal reason: his diagnosis with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Despite the devastating news, he remains determined to continue working, confirming his return for Euphoria Season 3, which began filming on April 14, 2025. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease with no known cure, but Dane’s resilience shines through in his statement to People: “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.” His openness about his health has sparked an outpouring of support from fans and colleagues alike.
